How to choose the right soap or diffuser refill

A refill begins with the bottle you already own. Before choosing by fragrance name or size, look at that original: who makes it, which range it belongs to, what the scent is called and what the product is used for. These details are more reliable than the colour of the bottle or a familiar word such as fig, rose or tea.

Match four details

Start with the house: Compagnie de Provence, Geodesis or Lothantique. Next, match the range and fragrance. Finally, confirm the format. A liquid soap refill is a wash-and-rinse product; a diffuser refill contains home fragrance. They have different purposes, even if their names evoke the same flower or tree. One should never be substituted for the other.

Compagnie de Provence’s Terra and Extra Pur collections are a useful example. Fig Leaf belongs to Terra, while Fig of Provence belongs to Extra Pur in our selection. Both suggest a fig tree, but that is not a reason to treat them as the same product. Read the full name on your bottle and the refill listing before choosing.

Refilling a soap bottle

For a liquid soap, use the matching refill and follow the instructions on the products. Check the amount your bottle holds before pouring. A one-litre refill is larger than a 495 ml or 500 ml bottle, so it should not all be added at once. Keep the remaining soap in its labelled refill container and follow its storage directions.

Where a pairing exists in our collection, the individual soap and refill descriptions point towards the matching fragrance. For example, Cotton Flower liquid soap refill belongs with the Cotton Flower liquid soap. If you are uncertain about an older bottle or a different range, check the details before replenishing it.

Refilling a reed diffuser

Apply the same approach to home fragrance: match the house, range and exact scent, then check the diffuser’s capacity. The Geodesis Fig-Tree 250 ml refill and the Fig-Tree 200 ml diffuser illustrate why refill volume and vessel volume need separate attention. A larger refill bottle does not change the capacity of the diffuser.

Lothantique’s Jardin d’Aquarelles selection also pairs 100 ml diffusers with 200 ml refills in matching fragrances. Follow the original product’s instructions, keep fragrance liquid away from heat and flames, and retain the labelled refill container. A diffuser refill is different from a room spray, even when both belong to the same scent collection.

Check the reeds separately

Replacement reeds are accessories, not fragrance liquid. Compare their stated length with the needs of your diffuser. Lothantique advises replacing reeds when replenishing a diffuser for better diffusion; follow the guidance for your particular product rather than choosing solely by colour. The stick pack and the liquid refill may be listed separately.

Browse soap and diffuser refills with your original bottle details beside you. If the match is unclear, include the house, range, scent and size in your enquiry. That small check is the best place to begin a familiar ritual again.
